PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES
2010/04/01,20:39

Along with the belated birthdays, I'm also quite tardy posting new pictures. Just in time for Easter, I'm posting whole batches of new pictures, going back to Will's first bowling trip in January. Here's a list of links to the new pictures:

Happy (Belated) Birthdays
2010/03/30,07:14

March was a big month for birthdays, and I forgot to mention any of them until now. So with little fan fare and my appologies for not doing this sooner, here's the list.

  • Tara Bland (3/3)
  • Will Walters (3/9)
  • Grandma Bettie (3/20)
  • Erin Rouke (3/30)
  • Uncle Dan (3/30)
And while I wasn't there to sing Happy Birthday to your personally, here's something just as special.

Happy Pi Day
2010/03/14,13:37

Today is March 14th, or as math geeks call it, Pi Day as in Π or 3.14159265. So get out and celebrate Pi Day, with a nice slice of pie. If you're feeling extra festive, you can have pi ala mode.

It is a glorious day outside today. Temperatures are in the low 50s. The sun is out and it feels actually warm.

I'm also turning comments back on. If it gets too spammy, I may shut them off again.

New theme as inspired by Will

Will told me this morning, as it was pouring down rain outside

I want to live someplace where its spring all the time. Like Austrailia.

First day of Snow
2009/12/03,15:13

After a beautiful November, winter finnally sprung upon us with some brisk 20 degree weather and a light dusting of snow this morning.

To put this in perspective, the average November in the Twin Cities includes 10 inches of snow. That's the AVERAGE. Up until this morning, we had not had more than a flake or two all season. Thanksgiving day in MN was 15 degrees warmer than the AVERAGE as well.

Winter is finally here, time to bring out the heavy coats, stocking caps and mittens. We were pretty luck with November, but I think the cold weather is likely to stick around for a while now.

Muppets
2009/11/24,14:19

While not exactly a secret, I'm not sure I've ever mentioned the amount of sheer joy that the Muppets provide. So, it's with that in mind, and the fact that there is surely a plethora of pre-holiday bandwidth available I post the following link:

And with that, I wish you all a glorious Tuesday.

Happy Anniversary, apt518.net
2009/11/19,21:50

Way back in 2003, I had a dream to host some honeymoon pictures on a website while learning PHP. That dream manifested itself in apt518.net, with a blog, pictures, and thoughts on life. In the six years since I started this site, I've been through a couple different life changes, most of which have been chronicled here.

To celebrate, I haven't got any big prize give aways. I have however posted some new pictures from halloween and more. Click the 'Links' link on the right and you should see the "Pictures' link at the very top. Enjoy!

UPDATE: While celebrating, I managed to forget to renew my hosting account until it was too late. Small outage while my payment was processed. But now we are good until next time this year when we can celebrate Year 7.

Happy Halloween
2009/10/31,13:41

Installed a seasonally appropriate fall theme on the website.

Kirsten, Will and I carved pumpkins this morning. Will enjoyed assisting with the process, and directing what shape eyes, nose and mouth each pumpkin should have. In keeping with Zen Master Will's bidding, we have one happy pumpkin and one sad pumpkin; yin and yang, bringing balance to the Universe. Master Will is wise.

Pictures were taken and will be uploaded later this weekend (hopefully).

UPDATED: Test Post

Testing twitter integration,

UPDATE: didn't exactly work the way I intended. Maybe I'll play more with it later.

Way back in the day....
2009/10/08,11:16

Almost 6 years ago, i registered APT518.net and started learning PHP. At the time I was living in Chicago, had just got married, and had some spare time on my hands to learn about this new things called MySQL, PHP and XHTML. While the website didn't always look the prettiest, I felt like it was mine because I had built it from nothing.

Sometime over the last month or so, some of my posts that I was attempting to make, disappeared as soon as I clicked submit. I'm not as intimately familiar with my code as I should have been, and my bug continued to annoy me. As I don't have as much time as I used to, I've gone to an out-of-the-box solution for our site (you are looking at it now).  It may not be my code, but it's our site. And if I'm gonig to keep this site up to date, I can hopefully do a better job with some of the other tools this solution provides.

Welcome to the new apt518.net!

Links have been migrated from the old site. I'm still working on a script to import all the old posts.
